eclectic Paperie - Altered Box Challenge!

ePaperie October 'Get Altered Challenge' . . . Alter a Box!!

Come on over to ePaperie and play along!!   You can win a $15 gift certificate to eP!

This is totally a Christmas Present idea!!  When I was a kid, I had a little wooden box that had miniature worry dolls inside.  It was my worry box and whenever I was worried, I could take out a little doll and tell it my worries.  Here is my take on a newer 'worry box!'   This time, worries can be written down and put into the little tin!  I think this might be my little box, because 5 is my special number!

I started with an empty Altoid tin.  Then I just got lost in the gluing paper, smearing on paint, rub-ons and doodling . . . I didn't take one picture of my process!!

I think it would be fun to write down your worries on little tags and put them in the box.
Plus, I put a little note in the bottom, just as encouragement!

This piece was totally inspired by Anthropolgie's Mason Jar Snowglobes.  When I saw the Genuinely Jane Mason Jar Shapes, I think I actually squeeled with delight because I knew exactly what I wanted to do . . . make snowglobes!!

First, I had my lovely hubby cut an old sheet of wood into the size I wanted to work with!  We have a pile of plywood and leftover pieces in the garage.  I just LOVE it when I have a chance to use it for fun projects!!

I cleaned the board up with a damp cloth.
I gessoed the wood background and the Genuinely Jane Mason Jar pieces! (I just stuck my hand in the paint instead of using a brush!)
I painted the jars with gesso and gray paint.  After the paint dried, I actually mixed the gray with some light modeling paste and applied it too.  In the final piece, you can see the texture!

I wanted the mason jars to really look like snowglobes. Mixing tar gel with the blues and whites made a really pretty watery looking blue.  It also was thick and had a fantastic texture.  To add to that thick texture I added some glitter.  Next time, I wouldn't add the glitter to mix, just sprinkle it on top because it gave the paint some extra bumps and lumps!

Then I focused on the Linnie Shapes that were going into the snowglobes! The new circles were turned into a snowman.  I used white paint and light modeling paste to give him a real texture that would stand out!

Green and red gelatos, just work SO well with Linnie shapes! They glide on and retain their amazing colors! Using a couple of different greens helped me to make the tree shapes look less flat and more dimensional!

I painted the house with acrylic paints. It is actually a canvas pocket piece, it just worked as a house too!
And glued all the Linnie Shapes onto the Genuinely Jane Pieces with Helmar 450.  Seriously, amazing when the canvas piece sticks down with this glue! It isn't going anywhere!

Originally, I painted the board red, really a bright holiday red. . . but it didn't work.  It screamed and I didn't like it.  Instead, I covered the red with Titan Buff and topped it with some Interference Blue which gives the finished piece a shimmer! Love it!

I glued the Genuinely Jane Mason Jars and the letters to the board with Helmar 450.  And DONE! I hope you enjoyed your visit!! Happy Hopping!!

Pumpkin Fun

Oh my goodness, I am SO excited to be making my first post as an ePDesign Team member!! I just love working with paper,  glue and paint . . . this project uses them all!!

We have a corner down the street from us that always has a booth for 4th of July fireworks,  Christmas trees and the pumpkin patch.  I was super excited to see the lights going up, the inflatables wiggling in the wind and the rows of pumpkins being set up last weekend. We might not have the 'coolest' fall weather here in  Atlanta Georgia, but the pumpkin patch means that fall is here!! Yeah!!

This is my pumpkin canvas decoration I made for the house this year!! I hope you enjoy it!!

I started with a free printable from Pintrest and used Matte medium to glue it down.

The white of the paper was a little bright so I added Titan Buff from Golden all around and a couple of smudges of orange! (Just stick your fingers in the paint and move it around on the canvas until it makes you happy!)

One of my favorite types of paper are the brown bags you get at the grocery store.  I store them (it really isn't hording if I plan to use them, right?) and use them sparingly.  I ripped this one up into the branches and the curly-cues for the canvas.

I cut several thin strips of the brown bag and coated them in matte-medium and curled them into corkscrew shapes.  You have to do one at a time, because the matte medium dries really quickly and there isn't much time to make a good corkscrew.  When the medium dries though, the paper stays in shape!  Love this!

Decoupage is a little bit stronger (but much goopier) than matte medium in my opinion, so I used it to glue the 'branches' down.  This way, the branches can bend out from the canvas and not fall off the canvas!

Random black paper from my stash made some random black bats to hang from the branches.  And I used twine to actually suspend them from where the branches pull away from the canvas. This way the bats move around in the wind! I stapled the bats to the twine and then added a dot of Helmar glue to make sure they didn't slide off!!

Next came the rub-ons and doodling to finish the canvas off!!

Thank you so much for taking a look today!! I hope you have a chance to sit down and create a pumpkin canvas of your own this season!!

I am linking this Halloween Pumpkin up, for the 2 Creative Chicks: Spooktabular Linky Party!! Come and  join the fun! http://www.2creativechicks.com/2013/10/spooktacular-linky-party-kick-off.html

Linnie Blooms Guest Design! October 1st!

Hi Everyone! Welcome to my blog!! Today I am doing a guest design for the wonderful Linnie Blooms!  I love making gifts for my friends and family for the holidays!! I start now and usually, by December, I have something for everyone!! This is my first gift . . . although, I might just keep it because it looks adorable on my wall!!

This clipboard project started out in Goodwill.  There was a stack of clipboards, that were .99 and since the color of the day was Green, they all turned out to be .50.  Steal!! (So I bought  a couple, thinking of teacher's gifts!!)

I was thinking how popular the chalkboard art is right now . . . but wanted something a little more permanent.  Starting with black paint and gesso, and coated the front and back of the board!  I tried it out and you can use chalk on it and wipe it right off!! Yeah!

Then I got out my Linnie Shapes.  They are so fun!! I thought these arrows would be cute to put on the side of the board, pointing in at the To-Do List!  These canvas shapes hold color so well! In these spray bottles, I have a mix of acrylic paint and water.  This way the spray is permanent!

Look at the definition of the stencil . . . amazing!  I love the Linnie canvas for this reason!!

The chalkboard look is so cute, but I wanted the To-Do list and the numbers to stay put . . . and the actual list to able to change.  I took out my FAVORITE white pen and doodled onto the clipboard.  Using my Helmarr 450, the shapes glued down to the edge!

I tied some ribbon onto the clippy-part and it was done!!  So, teacher gift no more . . . I am keeping this clipboard on the wall in my art area!! It is so happy there!!

Make sure to visit Linnie Blooms and browse through the awesome collection of canvas pieces! They are SO versatile and easy to use!! They just add that extra WOW to your scrapbooking and mixed media!

Make sure to visit the Linnie Blooms Blog and the design team Pintrest page for some AMAZING ideas!! Hop over to the blog and leave me some love!!

Gelli Crazy and Leftovers!

Had some extra black paint leftover . . . and went crazy with stencils on the gelli plate! LOVE the chevron!!

My second leftover today was some acrylic paint mixed with water in a spray bottle. I put some circles on the gelli plate and sprayed. I LOVED the texture the spray paint made on the gelli plate . . . I know I will use this idea somewhere!

Projects are all over my house!! So I also had some leftover tar gel mixed with some light blue paint.  I grabbed my Heidi Swapp heart stencil and filled it in with the mix.  When it was dry I brushed some watercolor onto the paper.  The tar gel mix resisted the watercolor.   Another fun technique that I might use again!
