Stencil Girl and Canvas Corp Match-Up: Put a Stencil on It: Surfaces

Okay, when two of your favorite companies are doing a MatchUp ... you jump up and down and then get your hands on the goodies!! Stencil Girl and Canvas Corp Brands ... perfect together.  This month the challenge was to "Put a Stencil on it: Surfaces!! I had a blast and almost wore out the stencils playing and creating a ton of different backgrounds and project ideas for this matchup.  In the end, I chose my favorite one to share with you!

These are the supplies that I used: Stencil Girl Stencils: Travel Note, Random Lace, Small World Longitude, Sunburst, Decorative 6 Petal, Canvas Corp 6x6 Canvas, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Starter Kit, Tattered Angels Chalkboard Mist Paint in Chalk, Matte Medium, Canvas Corp Burlap, Canvas Corp Canvas Fringe - Ticking Orange, Canvas Corp Ticking Fabric Navy, Canvas Corp, Canvas Corp Paper, Various blue paints and liquitex heavy body white paint. Tissue Paper

These are the tools that I used: Scissors, Brush, credit card, cosmetic sponge

In case, you want to try a project like this at home, here are the step by steps!! This is a fairly easy project and fun!!

Gesso the Canvas Corp 6x6 Canvas and then paint different colors of blue paint with a credit card.  After the blue paint dries, use heavy white body paint, a cosmetic sponge and the stencils to create the texture in the 'sky.' After the white paint is dry, use Tattered Angels Chalk Board Paint in Chalk to mist over the background to tone down the blue!

Using various papers and It's Green Glimmer Mist create the ground for under the balloon.  Use the piece of canvas from your Glimmer Mist starter kit and the travel note stencil to create a piece of textured ground! Cut the pieces to make rolling hills!  Use Matte Medium to glue them all down!

Use the Canvas Corp brand navy ticking and the Orange Ticking ribbon to create a hot air balloon.  Cut a small piece of burlap for the balloon basket.  Use small strings from the ticking fabric to create the ropes hanging off the side of the basket.

Print out the sentiment on tissue paper and glue down your pieces. Doodle a little and you are done!

Thank you all so much for visiting today!! I hope you enjoyed this matchup as much as I did!! April is going to be full of amazing projects!! I can't wait to see them all!!

Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #35 Superpowers!

Welcome back Challengers!! Oh boy, this is a FUN Challenge!! What is your Superpower?  Yeah!! I love my Super Girl, Superman, WonderWoman ....but if I could have a superpower I would FLY like Butterfly! I would spend my spring days flying from flower to flower enjoying myself without a care in the world! What would yours be??

Our amazing sponsor this month is Stampers Anonymous! They are an awesome place to get all your mixed media, papercraft and stamping needs!!  They have offered up a wonderful prize to give to our randomly selected winner!! So play along - you have a chance to win and you also get to play with your mixed media!!

Here is my project, if I could choose a superpower, it would be to fly like a butterfly!!

To begin, I started with a 9x12 canvas and used PaperArtsy Fresco Paints.  In order to keep the paint thin, I applied the paint with a credit card.

Then I sketched on a butterfly about where I wanted the final butterfly to be!

Stencils were added with archival ink to add texture.  I also stamped gold onto the background with Viva Modellier-Creme.  LOVE this stuff!

I added some gold rub-ons, more stamping and tissue paper.

Then I decided I needed a bigger butterfly than I originally had planned.  I found one of my favorite old Linnie Blooms stencils and dragged out my gelli plate!

Then I created about 2 dozen different butterflies with gold, with texture, with stencils until I found just the right one!

I took the butterflies and doodled on different patterns.

Finally, I put it all together! I added some purple Tattered Angels Stained Glass paint in Lavender to just create a the little bit of color that was missing!

Then I added some frames, just to see what it would look like! I used a light frame and then a gold frame.  Amazing how the different frames make it look!

So, now TIME TO PLAY with US!! Come and join in the challenge!!  It is so fun, our groups is super supportive and we love to see what you create!!
