Gelli Crazy and Leftovers!

Had some extra black paint leftover . . . and went crazy with stencils on the gelli plate! LOVE the chevron!!

My second leftover today was some acrylic paint mixed with water in a spray bottle. I put some circles on the gelli plate and sprayed. I LOVED the texture the spray paint made on the gelli plate . . . I know I will use this idea somewhere!

Projects are all over my house!! So I also had some leftover tar gel mixed with some light blue paint.  I grabbed my Heidi Swapp heart stencil and filled it in with the mix.  When it was dry I brushed some watercolor onto the paper.  The tar gel mix resisted the watercolor.   Another fun technique that I might use again!

Making the cake . . .

I stared with some plain Golden Magenta mixed with water in a spray bottle and a Crafter's Workshop Peacock Doily stencil.  I put the stencil down on a plain white canvas and sprayed away!

Then I cut out the paper pieces to made my 3-tier Layer Cake! (The paper is  from Fancy Pants and Simple Stories.)  I used Claudine Hellmuth matte medium to put the pieces down.  I have started using this much more than glues because it is less sticky and my fingers end up with less mess on them!!

Originally, I had planned on making the background pink and white polka dot, but I couldn't get it to look right.  So I ended up spraying instead, but I had the polka dots leftover.  But if you can't have polka dots, you have to have confetti!! Luckily, I had the perfect color confetti paper! I used my basic hole punch and Voila, confetti!!

Finishing touches, washi tape edge, doodling, a small quote on the banner, a couple of American Crafts embellishments and it is complete!!

So EXCITED!

I am SUPER excited to announce that I am now a part of the Eclectic Paperie Design Team!! I just adore all the work the design team has done in the past and I can't wait to create with the wonderful products from the store!!

If you are new to my blog, Welcome!!  I hope you come by often and say HI!

$12 Goodwill Special and a messy desk - means FUN!

A couple of weeks ago, I was browsing through Goodwill and this old preschool bookcase for $12!  I was SO excited!! I felt a project coming on!!

So here are the before pics! It was good yellow preschool furniture with stickers and scuffs all over it!!  I wiped on and scraped off Citri-strip to remove the cleaner buildup and sticker residue.

Then I sanded down the wood and stained it with about 3 coats of General Finishes wood stain gel and polyacrylic . When the polycoat was dry, I taped it off and spray painted the pegboard white!  In the end, I LOVE It!!  The bookcase fits under my counter and is an amazing place to keep my canvases!!

And my desk area is a COMPLETE MESS!! I have been working on several different canvases, my journal and balancing kids activities!! Whew . . . so here is my mess . . . .

And I am glad that my journal is somewhere that I can feel safe to create. The pages in my journal might not always be perfect or pages that I want to show to people.  But without just having a place to get ideas out, I would never get anywhere!!  I admit that this page is not my favorite ... the colors are a little wrong and the sizes of the leaves behind the flowers are a little big. But I do see potential and it inspires me to try again!
And just fun with new stencil . . . sometimes simple is just as fun as complicated!

What to do next time?

SO I have done an experiment. I made two different vintage trailer pics, one is acrylic and the other is watercolor. I knew that I wanted to paint a frame and make a trailer, but wasn't sure how to make them.

I really love watercoloring so I drew and painted the first one on watercolor paper and tore it out. I mounted it onto a canvas board, created a frame around it, added some map paper and a saying.  I like it.

Then I drew one straight onto the canvas board and painted it with acrylic paint, doodled, and added the saying.   I like it too.

But I still don't know which one I like better, watercolor or acrylic?!?!?
